Kory Green – An auditor with career ambition
Some people associate temporary work with short-term assignments. But Kory Green of Columbia, South Carolina knows different. His association with Kelly® has served to propel his career forward and pave his way for a bright future.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Kory first came to Kelly in 2009. Since then, he has worked steadily on accounting assignments for Kelly. But it was in his most recent assignment at Palmetto GBA®, a subsidiary of Blue Cross® Blue Shield®, where Kory happened upon an opportunity that would change his professional life. “After the assignment ended,” Kory said, “I was contacted by the department director, who told me about an open position in the company as an auditor.” Kory applied for the position—and nailed it.
“THROUGHOUT MY EXPERIENCE, I’VE SEEN A LOT OF DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS. NOT EVERY COMPANY IS RUN EFFICIENTLY. THAT’S ONE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT KELLY: THEY’RE VERY EFFICIENT, AND THEY HAVE A LOT OF GOOD RECRUITERS WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP YOU.”
Kory’s success story is indicative of a rising tide of professionals who are leveraging staffing agencies to gain valuable work experience and land a great job. It’s also a sign that a growing number of companies are reaching out to staffing companies such as Kelly for talent.
According to Kory, the critical factor that led to his success was how his Kelly recruiter, Tiffany, went to bat for him. In fact, Tiffany has placed more than 175 employees at Blue Cross Blue Shield in the past four years. “Tiffany is tenacious, resourceful, and approachable,” Kory said of his recruiter. “Kelly is very efficient and has a lot of good recruiters who are willing to help you.”
Talking to Kory about the experiences he’s gained through his years as a Kelly employee, it is evident that the experience has given him far more than a paycheck. “It’s had a positive impact on me,” Kory said. “It’s increased my knowledge base and has provided me with a variety of work experience. It’s given me marketability.”
Listen to Kory’s story in his own words
Kory is already looking ahead. “I want to get my master’s in business administration,” he said. “From there, I want to get my CPA. I’m also interested in pursuing career opportunities as a certified fraud examiner, or maybe in forensic accounting.”
Whatever direction he pursues, it’s evident Kory is a man with ambition and a lot of advice to share with job seekers walking a similar path. “My advice to others is to be persistent,” he said. “Learn how to communicate professionally. Be personable, because that’s what success is all about. Sometimes, if you make an impression on someone higher up the chain, you can open doors of opportunity.”
For Kory Green, those doors are wide open.
