Salary/Pay Rate/Compensation:
$70,000-95,000
Overview
This client manufactures powdered metal and injected metal parts for automotive (80%), aerospace (10%), and industrial (10%). Due to upcoming retirements, they are looking to add a metallurgist to their team.
In this role you will report to the Sr. Material Scientist and be responsible for performing tests and analysis to enhance our client’s material and technology portfolio to enable business growth and operational optimization. You’ll serve as a technical resource for customer, supplier, or internal interactions to assist in problem solving and continuous improvement activities. You’ll train under their senior staff in order to learn the intricacies of the role.
Responsibilities:
- Develop new, or enhanced, material and process solutions to meet customers’ or operational facilities’ needs at the direction of management.
- Performs lab testing and analysis in support of chosen development projects. Ensures equipment is operational, certified, and utilized safely and effectively.
- Assists in technical problem solving, process improvement, and new product launch activities as needed to support production facilities.
- May visit customers along with the sales team as a technical expert to support the selling process or in a problem-solving capacity.
- Effective communication skills are required, both oral and written, internally and externally. Must have ability to convey complex ideas and promote discussion for the express purpose of building lasting relationships and create opportunities that result in new sales.
Qualifications:
- BS Material Science or equivalent in engineering or related discipline preferred and at least 1+ years’ experience in the following:
- Hands on mechanical testing and data analysis of metals
- Metallurgical sample preparation, interpretation and reporting
- Experience can be through a relevant internship (process development or quality testing) or research
- Prior experience with die casting or powder metal technology a plus
- Prior experience with completion of development projects preferred.
