Anodizing Chemist – Fridley, MN

The Anodizing Chemist oversees all operations of the Anodizing Lab. This position supports manufacturing and quality teams by driving continuous process improvements and researching new processes/finishes for the chemical and mechanical finishing lines, aligning with the company’s core strengths and objectives. Additionally, this role leads Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) initiatives to enhance workplace conditions for employees and ensure compliance.
Responsibilities:

  • Carries out research on finishes and processes, undertaking departmental research and development tasks as directed by the Director of Engineering & Technical Services.

  • Assist manufacturing to troubleshoot anodizing and other manufacturing problems.

  • Under the direction of the Manager, Responsible for managing the analysis and upkeep of the production line’s chemical processes. The testing encompasses cleaners, rinses, etching, brightening, anodizing, and sealing tanks. Make necessary changes as needed.

  • Maintains the sample system for aluminum anodizing finishes.

  • Support EH&S efforts at the facility by assisting in goal setting, prioritizing safety and compliance needs, managing related operating expenses, and maintaining systems to track performance.

  • Maintains stability, consistency, and cleanliness of R&D Laboratory.

  • Interacts with customers and other metal finishers for relationship building, problem solving, and to remain current on technical developments.

  • Participates in professional education and training to keep informed about new job and industry developments.

  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Chemistry (or similar) required.

  • 1+ years’ experience aluminum anodizing production.

  • Will participate in continuing education and on-going training.

  • Prefer – Working knowledge of mechanical finishing processes, powder coating, metallurgy, and EHS.

  • Creative abilities to identify and implement research and troubleshoot solutions.

  • Capable of learning, memorizing, and comprehending formulas, testing procedures, and sequences to reliably conduct research and laboratory tests.

  • Able to read, interpret and analyze literature and information and document research.

  • Ability to use hand tools, analytical instruments, lab equipment, and measuring devices.

  • Ability to concentrate, identify problems, problem solve, and reproduce research results.

  • Ability to document, organize and control process for consistence and repeatability.
