Kelly Engineering is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our clients’ biomanufacturing team.

Client is open to assisting with relocation expenses.

In this role, you will lead and advise on projects across site departments, including Formulation, Aseptic Filling, Automated Inspection, Packaging, and site-level systems like BAS, AMHS, and Historian. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams (MS&T, Engineering, Digital, Quality, Validation, and others) to define requirements, execute projects, and ensure the ongoing operation of automated systems.
               
Duties / Responsibilities

  • Lead automation efforts for equipment design, optimization, commissioning, and validation.

  • Interface with and manage PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, servers, databases, and other automation technologies.

  • Serve as the automation SME, providing cross-functional support in process development.

  • Review and approve technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, drawings, and coding guidelines.

  • Train team members on systems, software, equipment, and procedures, while offering technical guidance.

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement temporary or permanent solutions.

  • Oversee documentation for equipment and process qualification and maintain SOP compliance.

  • Develop, review, and update SOPs and specifications for systems and facilities.

  • Recommend and implement productivity, quality, cost, and waste reduction improvements.

  • Lead investigations and studies with minimal supervision.

  • Support regulatory audits and inspections, ensuring compliance.

  • Conduct quality audits to verify proper device functionality.

 
Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing operations within regulated or cGMP environments.

  • 2-3 years of proficiency with automation systems such as Rockwell, Ignition, Wonderware, Siemens, Emerson (GE), or B&R.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with FactoryTalk Batch and Data Historian/Visualization tools (e.g., OSI PI).

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL database design.

  • Knowledge of GAMP 5, ISA standards, and change control, deviation, CAPA, validation, and qualification processes.
