Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for an HVAC mechanic on a government contract with our customer in Menlo Park, CA.  This is a contract opportunity with a chance for permanent hire, depending on budget. 

Position overview:
Our customer’s Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world’s premier science facilities on a 400-acre Stanford site with 150+ structures comprised of office and research facilities for the Department of Energy. We are a dynamic service organization committed to the support and success of the Laboratory’s Scientific Mission by providing safe and responsive engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.
We are seeking an HVAC Mechanic with a background in HVAC equipment and control systems including install, troubleshoot, repair, and modify heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and systems, with strict adherence to site-specific safety requirements as well as work planning and control (WPC) protocols for shop, field, or experimental areas.
The HVAC Mechanic – Specialist will communicate and coordinate with line supervision as to effort status, progress, and completion timelines. Must be able to follow all of our customer’s safety rules and regulations and identify areas for improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex troubleshooting of HVAC systems, including functional analysis.

  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and service all types of industrial HVAC instrumentation and controls including electronic, pneumatic or digital systems.

  • Adjust complex HVAC instrumentation and control systems to improve system functionality and energy conservation.

  • Accomplish difficult repairs that may involve customizing parts to serve in old systems where replacement parts are no longer available.

  • Analyze and maintain diverse HVAC systems at optimal operating efficiency while maintaining energy efficiency.

  • Test, adjust, and balance HVAC systems.

  • Establish and maintain proactive maintenance of a full range of HVAC systems.

  • Respond effectively and expediently to critical repair situations, such as environmental systems that impact research operations.

  • Install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair duct systems.

  • Support state-of-the-art HVAC systems, requiring specialized and extensive training.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of a preventative maintenance system on new and existing equipment as assigned by Supervisor or Lead mechanic.

  • May perform specialized functions related to air quality (such as IAQ testing and reporting; or the testing, adjusting, balancing and certifying of laboratory fume hoods).

  • May write reports and certification documents.

  • May perform any of the duties described in the HVAC Mechanic maintenance specification or other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Journey level knowledge equivalent to four (4) years or completion in an apprentice program as a journey mechanics, with a minimum seven (7) years actual work experience in the trade or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

  • Must have extensive working, knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized HVAC technologies such as computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and BacNet based BMS.

  • High level testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) skills.

  • Perform complex trouble shooting and problem-solving skills that have developed over many years, but they may also require specialized training in emerging HVAC technologies.

  • Experience servicing and repairing chillers.

  • Experience repairing gas fired and electric boilers.

  • Experiences repairing gas fired and electric humidifiers.

  • Experience installing and programming ABB VFDs.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

  • Valid CA Non-Commercial Class C Driver’s License.

  • EPA or Universal Technician certification strongly preferred
