Kelly Outsourcing Consulting Group has an opening for a Laboratory Animal Resource (LAR) Technician for a long-term engagement at one of our Global medical device clients in Cincinnati, Ohio. The role is eligible for medical benefits, paid time off including vacation (PTO), and holidays, 401K, and annual performance reviews. The Kelly OCG team supports Preclinical Research in Vivarium operations and includes twenty team members. Shift: 3-11:30pm Wednesday through Sunday
Training is Monday through Friday 7am to 330pm
Pay is $18 an hour
Responsibilities
- Work in a complex and highly regulated environment that provides humane care for laboratory animals in support of education and research labs.
- Ensure proper documentation and record keeping in accordance with regulatory and departmental requirements (including but not limited to Animal Welfare Act, GLP, USDA, AAALAC, IACUC, and client policies and procedures).
- Perform daily animal health observations and identify any abnormalities. Complete documentation that describes the abnormality and report to the veterinary and scientific staff. Perform all required veterinary treatments including parental administration of treatments/drugs.
- Assisting the Attending Veterinarian, Study Directors, and/or Research Assistants with animal physical examinations, routine weight checks, technical procedures, and critical pre/post-operative treatments and observations.
- Cleaning and sanitization of large animal pens, equipment, rooms, and ancillary spaces on schedules that adhere to regulatory requirements.
- Provide animal husbandry including but not limited to providing food, water, and environmental enrichment to the research animals.
- Operates laboratory equipment and analytical and other instruments; and ensures its proper operation and maintenance.
- Data collection and entry in various electronic databases to support research projects.
- .Proactively order and maintain inventory of vivarium supplies to include the veterinary care pharmacy, food, and edible enrichment.
- Participate in the required annual health surveillance program, including the completion of annual blood-borne pathogen training and respirator fit-testing.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in animal science, biology, zoology or similar field preferred. High school diploma required.
Skills:
- Animal care experience preferred. (large animals)
- Adherence to good documentation practices.
- Ability to execute to a scientific protocol.
- Excellent organizational and math skills.
- Ability to consistently follow directions and work under pressure.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Must be a proficiency user of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift 50 lbs without assistance.
- ALAT, LAT, or LATG certifications will be considered, but are not required
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift 50 lbs without assistance. Must be able to pass pre employment physical, including respirator fit and hearing tests.
