Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Lab Technician near Niantic, IL.
Temporary contract (~4 months)
Shift: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm
Compensation: $20-$22/hr
Overview:
A leading analytical contract laboratory, well-regarded on a global scale and recognized for its excellence and innovation, seeks dedicated Lab Technicians. The lab serves major agricultural biotechnology and chemical companies by rigorously analyzing feed, food ingredients, organic products, genetically modified crops, bio-pesticides, plant protection agents, and crop chemicals. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology in nutritional composition, agricultural chemistry, and molecular biology, the lab strives to be “The Most Trusted Lab in Our Industry,” ensuring that agricultural products are safe for both humans and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and storing laboratory glassware
- Weighing samples accurately
- Preparing reagents and solutions
- Conducting basic wet chemistry methods
- Performing sample extraction, derivatization, and other fundamental laboratory techniques
- Thoroughly documenting procedures and adhering to established methods/SOPs
- Utilizing basic computer skills, specifically Excel and Word
- Meeting aggressive project deadlines with a high degree of efficiency
Specialized Roles:
- Proximate Analysis Technicians:
- Conduct food ingredient testing
- Manage labor-intensive tasks
- Entry-level (0-2 years of experience)
- Conduct food ingredient testing
- Extraction/Purification Technicians:
- Prepare samples for analysis using high-tech equipment
- Accurately weigh samples and perform extractions according to SOPs
- Maintain thorough documentation for regulatory purposes
- Entry-level, critical client-facing regulatory work
- Prepare samples for analysis using high-tech equipment
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proficient in basic laboratory technician tasks
- Familiarity with balances, drying ovens, and ashing furnaces
- Strong pipetting skills
- Reliable with a goal/metric-driven approach
- Competent in using Microsoft Excel and generating documents in Word
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Diverse analytical background; specific degree not required
- Previous laboratory experience is essential
Day-to-Day Operations:
- Operate within a dynamic contract chemistry lab setting
- Utilize basic PPE and maintain active movement within the lab
- Collaborate with leading agricultural clients
- Involvement in analyzing GMO seeds for regulatory compliance
- Apply methodologies in agricultural chemistry, nutritional chemistry, and molecular biology
- Ensure compliance with GLP standards under EPA and USDA guidelines
- Generate data for EPA and USDA regulatory submissions
