Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking an experienced Vivarium Manager (Cagewash) for a direct-hire (permanent) placement with one of industry partners in the Minneapolis area. If you’re passionate about bringing the latest scientific discoveries to life and are ready to take the next step in your career, trust The Experts at Hiring Experts.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:00 am-2:30 pm.
Weekend/Holiday/On-Call work may be needed.

Target Pay: $80-90k/year

Role Overview: Manage animal husbandry operations across multiple facilities in the Twin Cities area. Supervise 2-4 cage wash supervisors and oversee approximately 30 staff.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure consistent operations despite staffing shortages or repairs.

  • Develop maintenance plans and timelines for equipment replacements.

  • Communicate inventory needs to the Infrastructure Director.

  • Coordinate equipment repairs with the Facility Manager.

  • Review and ensure compliance of SOPs.

  • Address facility and equipment needs with the animal care manager.

  • Implement continuous process improvement programs.

  • Manage equipment transportation and storage.

  • Facilitate timely onboarding and training of staff.

  • Monitor daily productivity and respond to investigator requests.

Management:

  • Direct supervision of cage wash supervisors.

  • Approve leave, overtime, and weekend work requests.

  • Conduct probationary and annual reviews.

  • Mentor and provide feedback to staff.

  • Address performance issues with HR support.

  • Investigate and resolve labor-related issues with HR.

  • Determine staffing needs and make recommendations.

  • Serve as hiring manager for cage wash positions.

  • Resolve conflicts effectively.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Improve communication among units.

  • Mentor junior staff and support their professional growth.

  • Communicate professionally with external stakeholders and colleagues.

  • Lead or participate in projects involving cage wash staff and equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 9 years.

  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to adapt to new software.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience in conflict management; ability to deescalate situations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing employees.

  • Experience in and/or familiarity with labor union environments.

  • Work experience at an AAALAC-accredited institution.

  • Knowledge of regulations on animal research.

  • Ability to adapt resources to changing needs.

  • Project management experience.

  • Understanding of cage wash and vivarium operations.

  • CMAR certification.

  • ALAT certification.
