Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a Associate Flavor Analyst/Scientist for a Long Term Contract opportunity in Union Beach, NJ.

As a member of the Consumer Product Analytics (CPA) group, you will be responsible for carrying out flavor research activities involving diverse sample processing techniques.  You will be collecting and interpreting data from a wide range of analytical instruments with a focus on GC-MS, HPLC, and LCMS.  You will develop expertise to discern and understand the key components, processes and interactions that drive scent and taste performance for a variety of consumer and natural products.  

This role is focused on supporting the flavor CPA team.  In this capacity you will be responsible for reporting the results of chemical and physical testing as directed by senior analyst/scientist. You will work closely with the other members of the flavor Creative and Applications groups to understand the composition and chemistry of commercial and natural products. 

About You:

To be successful in this role you must have a BS degree or higher in Food Science, Chemistry or a related field.  An interest in food and flavor chemistry along with an analytical mindset are required.  Hands on experience with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry as well as sample preparation techniques would be a plus.

  • Executing complex technical work under the general direction of technical management. This work will relate to the isolation and concentration of flavor compounds from food and beverage products (solvent extractions like LLE, distillations, headspace collections like SPME)

  • Acquiring, analyzing, and developing skills at interpreting chromatographic data (GC-MS, HPLC, LCMS)

  • Documenting and recording analytical data from flavor research projects

  • Maintaining the laboratory and equipment
     

Required Skills:

  • A passion for flavors and fragrances

  • Strong capabilities in both Food Science and Analytical Chemistry

  • Drive to take on complex technical problems

  • Competency with current computing and information technology tools and applications

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of a BS degree in Food Science, Chemistry or a related field

  • Familiarity and interest in analytical separation and instrumentation

Pay Rate: $28 – 34 an hour depending on years of experience.
