Development Scientist – R&D Scientist II

Kelly Science & Clinical is looking to fill a permanent role as a Development Scientist – R&D Scientist II position in Ann Arbor, MI for one of our clients.
 
Summary:

  • The R&D Scientist II works both independently and as part of a team in an industry lab environment to complete product development of ELISA assays, enzyme activity, detection assay kits, as well as assist with Product Support, Quality Control, and Manufacturing activities. This candidate should also understand the conjugation chemistry of small organic molecules and proteins. This position does not have direct reports.

Responsibilities:
Product Research & Development

  • Research, develop and transfer new assay products through Proof of Concept, Optimization, and Validation to Manufacturing (ex: immunoassay, enzyme activity,

  • detection assays, etc.), with product manufacturability, quality, and stability in mind.

  • Perform biochemical purifications.

  • Design and create conjugated small molecule analytes and proteins for use in

  • antibody and assay development and transfer to Manufacturing as needed.

  • Source, assess, and review vendor critical raw materials to ensure quality and long-term

  • supplies are met.

  • Assess and improve product manufacturability.

  • Optimize and monitor product stability.

  • Maintain accurate, legible, up-to-date lab notebooks, SOPs, protocols, and create

  • manufacturing and marketing scientific documentations efficiently in a timely

  • fashion.

  • Ensure compliance with government rules and regulations when performing all

  • scientific tests and experiments as required. (FDA, cGMP, DEA, ICH, OSHA, etc.).

Laboratory management

  • Keep laboratory inventory of materials stocked and request necessary items in a

  • timely manner as necessary.

  • Keep database updated with accurate levels of R&D chemical inventories.

Production Assistance (Product Support, QC, and Manufacturing)

  • Support the Quality Management System to include but not limited to:

  • Assist in improving test methods, analysis, and specifications for products, to include raw materials, in-process reagents, and finished products.

  • Assist in processes for product reagent preparation, assembly, verification,

  • packaging, and shipment of products, according to documented procedures.

  • Assist in equipment maintenance, calibration, and record management.

  • Assist in Documentation and other product-oriented functions as needed.

  • Assist Technical Support, communicating with customers (internal and external) in a

  • timely manner

  • Represent the company at trade shows as needed

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Biochemistry, or related life science discipline (or equivalent

  • experience) required; PhD degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline preferred.

  • At least 2 years of experience in biotech laboratory environment with industry

  • experience in product development.

  • Organic chemistry research techniques, including conjugation chemistry to small

  • molecules, immunogen design, and antibody development.

  • Drive self-starter with ability to plan, execute, and communicate tasks thoroughly in

  • a timely manner, extreme attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to apply and promote critical thinking, problem-solving, sound experimental

  • design, and data analysis skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and in deadline-based environments.

  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.

  • Up to 15% travel both international and domestic as necessary

Pay: $70-80K/yr

Hours: Standard dayshift hours, M-F
