Location: Farmington Hills, MI
Shift: Monday-Thursday (4:00pm – 12:30am) Friday (10:00am-6:30pm)
Compensation: $17.04 /hour
Temp-to-Hire (10/21/2024 to 06/30/2025)
 
Job Summary:
The Custodian is responsible for cleaning functions, furniture moving and adjustments, and other related custodial duties in compliance with assigned safety and work standards and schedules. A custodian may be assigned and paid out of classification for duties of a Mailroom/Shipping & Receiving Clerk or Groundskeeper, when directed by their supervisor and with appropriate training. This position reports to the Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds and/or Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds. The employee is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment. Education: High school graduation or equivalent. College credits preferred. Licenses: Current valid driver’s license. State of Michigan pesticide applicator license, preferred Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Minimum of one (1) year custodial experience, preferred. Experience in customer service. Knowledge of use of E-mail System. Basic computer skills, preferred. Experience in grounds keeping, preferred.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, emptying trash bins, and cleaning restrooms.

  • Surface Disinfection: Regularly disinfect high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, handrails, and elevator buttons, to prevent the spread of germs.

  • Restroom Upkeep: Ensure restrooms are clean, stocked with necessary supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper), and report any maintenance issues.

  • Floor Care: Maintain floor cleanliness and appearance by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming as needed.

  • Outdoor Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness of outdoor areas, including parking lots, walkways, and building entrances.

  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

  • Event Support: Assist with setup and breakdown of events, including arranging furniture and cleaning up post-event.

  • Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain cleaning supplies inventory, informing the supervisor when reordering is necessary.

  • Reporting: Report any maintenance or repair needs to the facilities supervisor promptly.

 
 Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Experience: Previous experience in a custodial or janitorial role is preferred.

  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and good communication skills.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods.

  • Other: Must have a reliable means of transportation and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if necessary.

  • Performing cleaning functions, furniture moving and adjustments, and other related custodial duties in compliance with assigned safety and work standards and schedules
