Machine Operator

Job Summary:

Responsible for the proper setup of the machine/filler for each production run. Adjusts equipment during production according to processes, fill records, and procedures. Places required material in and on the can in accordance with proper fill records. Operates filling lines efficiently and maintains a clean and safe work environment.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Reads the fill formula prior to starting each run and ensures each setup/startup is accurate.

  • Sets weights on all cylinders within 15 minutes, maintaining a 3-gram tolerance without assistance.

  • Reads and utilizes an electronic scale to monitor weights.

  • Monitors the weight and equipment during the production run, including all machines in the designated area (e.g., vacuum checkers, crimpers, torquer).

  • Adjusts the equipment in accordance with the fill formula.

  • Monitors the liquid fill weights and checks cans from the fill heads throughout the production run.

  • Clears the line at the end of each run.

  • Checks the part number of each box of needed raw materials for accuracy.

  • Starts the shift prior to production, if required, to get cans to the check weighing station at the start of the shift.

  • Removes and cleans dirty cans and corrects problems causing deficiencies.

  • Maintains clean filling and pressurizing equipment.

  • Wears all required safety equipment in designated areas.

  • Must be able to maintain run rates effectively.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of machinery operations.

  • Mathematical aptitude.

  • Ability to place caps/valves at a rate to maintain production routes.

  • Ability to read scales and formula sheets.

  • Capable of cleaning lines and equipment, including gassing capsules.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior manufacturing machine operation experience.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Observes and follows safety regulations and demonstrates the ability to perform job functions safely at all times.

  • Job may include requirements for overtime work.

  • Must wear safety equipment in designated areas.

  • Must be able to tolerate levels of solvents below OSHA permissible levels. (Individuals with asthmatic conditions may have difficulty in this environment).

  • Must walk up and over staircases.

  • Manufacturing facility environment.

  • Environment may be extremely hot or cold depending on weather conditions.
