Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Field Engineer for a direct-hire position with a manufacturer of material handling equipment located in Novi, MI. If you are passionate about shaping the world we live in and are ready to reengineer your future, trust the experts at hiring experts.  

 
Overview 
 
This client engineers, fabricates, and installs custom material handling equipment including a variety of conveyors, AGVs, transfer/hoisting equipment for assembly lines in the automotive industry.
 
As a Field Engineer, you will travel to customer sites to install, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment. You will also identify customer needs  

Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain products and equipment.

  • Under general direction, you will perform electrical, electronic, and mechanical repairs, identify, analyze, and repair product failures, order & replace parts as needed.

  • Observe the equipment in operation; listening for problems; executing various test cycle operations, and using precision measuring and testing instruments

  • Complete preventive maintenance requirements on equipment, following site specific procedures & operations/maintenance manuals

  • Interpret engineering drawings and assist site installation crews as necessary throughout the installation phase of a project thru customer final acceptance

  • Interface with the on-site project team, communicating with the design team to resolve issues, and able to troubleshoot and resolve minor on-site issues as they arise

  • Supervision of other associates may be required, as well as supervision of skilled trades

  • Understand project schedules and site activities required for successful implementation of material handling systems

  • Familiar with structural design and analysis, including calculations

  • You will also determine and recommend which products, systems or services best fit the customers’ needs.

  • Be familiar with various material handling systems which include Power & Free conveyors, Skid conveyors, FDS friction conveyor, Fork Transfers, Part Carriers, and other automation type equipment.

  • Be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures, rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, and lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

  • Perform Engineering studies to develop reliable and optimum solutions based on customer requirements

  • Create bid documents and facilitate meetings and negotiations with subcontractors on small projects (less than $1M).

  • Create customer quotes and facilitate meetings and negotiations with customer on small projects (less than $1M).

  • Make estimations on Small projects (less than $1M)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical, mechanical, automation, or mechatronic engineering or related.

  • 1-3 years experience with material handling equipment in any of following capacities: installation, maintenance/repair, building, or troubleshooting

  • Troubleshooting skills related to commissioning activities, equipment installation/configuration, integration, and modification.

  • Proficient with PLC programming, any kind (current environment is Omron & Mitsubishi)

  • Ability to supervise subcontractors, is required

  • Skills to meet with customers, identify future technical needs and potential sales opportunities.

  • Ability to travel up to 75% within North America

  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required, MS Project a plus

  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Inventor or other 3D modeling software.
