Job details

The Applications Technician will be responsible primarily for laboratory support and testing of pavement markings, including application performance evaluations, physical property characterization, and on-road application.  Secondary responsibilities may include preparing of coating samples for applications testing of waterborne coatings under the direction of a project leader.  This will include safe laboratory practices for handling chemicals, formulating/applying waterborne coatings, and using coatings applications equipment.  The Technician will need to conduct routine coatings tests and maintain a lab notebook.  Further details are provided below.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting performance and application tests on road markings and coatings, focusing on dry time, durability, and appearance.

  • Support the pavement markings function which will entail site set up and clean up, traffic control materials, preparing machinery, loading and unloading the truck, and operating paint striping equipment

  • Experience in long line, short line or parking lot striping

  • With training and oversight provided, you will performing all duties related to the pavement marking process including but not limited to driving and operating of road marking line striping equipment, paint mixing, and other Pavement Marking equipment

  • Valid Drivers License and Clean Motor Vehicle Record

    • You may be asked to work around the country, not just in Collegeville and surrounding areas


  • Line striping equipment maintenance (or more general machine or spray equipment maintenance)

  • Noise level of the work environment is usually moderate/loud

  • Supports and follows all Safety policies, procedures, and practices

  • Preparing coated samples by the drawdown method or spray application, including indoor and outdoor application (primary focus).

  • Formulating small- and large-scale waterborne coating systems for industrial coating applications.

  • Safety mindset and willingness to learn.

  • Safe handling of chemicals, application equipment, and coating and testing methods, including proper handling and disposal of waste chemicals and used laboratory supplies.

  • Navigate and streamline critical laboratory operations including sample shipping and analytical support.

  • Maintain labs, equipment, chemicals and supplies.

  • Excellent documentation of experiments in lab notebook and analyzing/reporting results to lead Application Chemist and team.

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple people on concurrent projects while consistently delivering timely results.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

 
 
Qualifications, Competencies, and Position Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field or several years of applications support is required

  • Experience with laboratory and analytical equipment, methodologies, and capabilities.

  • Understanding of laboratory safety procedures

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with regularly shifting priorities.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organization skills.

  • Able to work in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, ability to organize and summarize experimental data, and ability to learn new systems quickly.

  • Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

    • Frequent/occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling material weighing approximately 50 lbs.

    • Ability to work outside for up to 15% of the week.

    • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

    • Stand 50% of the time.

    • Climb stairs.

    • Wear all required personal protective equipment.

  • Safe handling of chemicals, application equipment, and coating and testing methods, including proper handling and disposal of waste chemicals and used laboratory supplies.

  • Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:
