We are seeking individuals qualified to work as a Scientific Program Manager to support the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

 

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

Duties Include:

  • Collaborate with staff to develop and draft operating policies and procedures

  • Work with staff to coordinate collaborative efforts that involve multiple participants

  • Organize and prioritize tasks; update and maintain shared calendars

  • Respond to written communications.

  • Communicate with staff from across the NIH and FDA CTP on TRSP-related activities. 5

  • Coordinate periodic TRSP-related scientific / training meetings within NIDA; develop agendas, prepare and distribute background information; write and distribute minutes; schedule conference or virtual rooms as needed. 1

  • Serve as secondary point of contact and attend review, scientific and in-house meetings; distribute official summaries of those meetings to NIDA staff.

  • Communicate with investigators about responsiveness, budgets and other inquiries; communicate with NIH TRSP staff when clarification is needed.

  • Participate in NIH Tobacco Regulatory Science Program grantee meetings, and in professional nicotine and tobacco related conferences, as coordinate with the NIDA FTL.

  • Monitor grants’ scientific progress (with NIH Program Officer concurrence) and grantee requests in collaboration with TRSP/CTP.

  • Monitor and follow up with TRSP, NIDA staff, and investigators on grant and application issues (e.g., withdrawing non-responsive applications, working with TRSP and NIDA staff on status of administrative supplement requests). 2

  • Gather information about TRSP-related programs and update NIDA SOPs; work with staff to identify and recommend opportunities to improve processes and workflow. 4

  • Compile and maintain tracking of the TRSP-related scientific portfolio, including communications with extramural scientists regarding status of project responsiveness.

  • Maintain a resource library and keep team abreast of recent research and regulatory science findings.

  • Maintain and update spreadsheets for NIDA-TRSP budget and timekeeping.

  • Compile and analyze data and prepare graphs and slides for presentations; prepare reports, letters, and other

  • documents for review and input for programs, policies, and activities within NIDA and for the NIH.

  • Maintain a tracking system for extramural investigator requests for NIDA Nicotine Research Cigarettes (NRCs) to determine supply and demand; coordinate agenda and logistics between NIDA Drug Supply Program and FDA CTP staff for monthly updates on the status of the NRC inventory and related operating procedures and inter-agency agreements. 3

  • Coordinate the submission and approval of NRC orders with the NIDA Drug Supply Program Director and Assistant to facilitate the timely fulfillment of these product orders for the extramural research community (e.g., communicate via telephone and/or email with: extramural researchers regarding ordering procedures and availability of NRCs in the inventory, manufacturers of the NRCs regarding pending ordering and shipping status updates, estimated timelines, and relaying questions; provide training and assistance to NIH Program Staff for the timely use of the NIDA database tracking system).

  • Work with NIDA Web Developers to optimize and update content for websites and monitor for currency and accuracy of information.

 

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline

  • Experience with public health or public policy

  • Project management principles; resourcefulness and successful database searching.

  • Knowledge of the NIH Grant system

  • Expertise in Regulatory Science
