Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a R&D Lab Tech for a Long Term Contract opportunity in Midland, MI.

Job responsibilities will include routine and non-routine materials characterization and method development in support of one or more R&D projects.  The ability to multi-task and prioritize work is critical. Depending on the need of the projects, the job requires the ability to operate, conduct troubleshooting, and conduct testing using one or more characterization technologies: Mechanical testing (Instrons); Impact testing; Flammability; Ash testing; Abrasion testing; Dimensional analyzers; Color & Haze measurement; Deflection Temperature Under Load (DTUL); Melt Flow Rate (MFR). This position requires precise documentation and record keeping.  All work will be documented in laboratory notebooks, electronic systems, or technical reports. 
 
The candidate will participate in project teams so effective team skills and the ability to communicate needs, progress, and results are important.  A self-starter that can work independently with technical support is desired.  Good interpersonal skills are also required as the individual may be required to interact with lab customers (internal to Dow).  High initiative and effective organizational skills are also beneficial as many projects have short notice and fast turnaround time needs.  At times many projects may be initiated and conducted concurrently.  Attention to detail and high quality of results is critical.
 
Strong mechanical skills and general laboratory skills are highly desired. Data reduction/data analysis skills with spreadsheets (Excel) is highly desired.  Minimum educational requirements are a High School degree or equivalent. An Associate Degree in a science/technology discipline or two years of relevant laboratory experience is preferred. 
 
Key Responsibilities include:

  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with facility and site EH&S policies

  • Participate in good housekeeping practices and the group’s Safety program

  • Perform analytical and product characterization testing for one or more projects as directed by project leads

  • Ensure documentation and testing is done with high quality aiming to ensure needs of the business

  • Provide support in instrument set up, maintenance, and troubleshooting

  • Provide support in method development and validation studies

  • Participate in technical training to attain on-the-job proficiencies
