Salary: $140k-$220k (DOE)

Job Description Summary

A leading research center in West Michigan is seeking a Senior Scientist or Engineer to serve as Director and lead the growth of a translational health research center. The role involves establishing a nationally visible research hub, fostering collaborations with industry, researchers, and clinicians, and driving external funding. The ideal candidate will build a robust research program in computational health areas such as bioinformatics, data analytics, AI, and medical image processing. The position offers affiliation with academic departments for qualified candidates.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead an externally funded research program.

  • Foster collaborations with healthcare entities and academic institutions.

  • Provide management oversight and leadership of the research center.

  • Ensure a safe and compliant laboratory environment.

  • Participate in relevant meetings and conferences, with occasional travel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.D. in a health-related field (e.g., biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, etc.).

  • Qualified to serve as a principal investigator on federal research grants.

  • Proven experience in securing and managing federal grants.

  • Strong record of research output and interdisciplinary team leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a research center director or administrator.

  • Familiarity with federal grant management platforms (e.g., NIH ASSIST, FastLane).

  • Prior interaction with institutional review boards (IRB, IACUC).
